NH House committee passes medical marijuana bill

From the New Hampshire House:

A House committee today recommended that the full House agree to let certain patients grow their own marijuana if their doctor recommends they use it to relieve certain medical conditions.
The so-called medical marijuana bill, House Bill 648, passed the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee on a 13 to 7 vote after agreeing to an amendment on a 15 to 5 vote.
Among other things, the amendment restricts the number of patients one “designated caregiver” can assist to one, down from the five allowed in the original bill.

Low taxes creates jobs.

Low taxes create jobs.

Too bad the New Hampshire House apparantly doesn't see it that way.

From the 3/6/09 House Record.

"The minorities contention that revenues lost would be immediately made up by economic expansion is not borne out by history or economc theory."

This is quite a statement.

What they neglect to say is that higher taxes actually squeeze out business that can move to lower cost states like North Carolina, Kentucky and Alabama.

New Hampshire won't have to worry about protecting revenue streams to the Educational Trust Fund. At this rate their won't be any revenue to protect. So much for the economic theory that lowering taxes doesn't create economic activity.

Hear! Hear!

The Chairman comes out swinging and challenges Governor Do Nuthin' Lynch to be true to his word on the gas tax increase... From former New Hampshire Governor and Republican State Committee Leader John H. Sununu:

“This week the ‘tax and spend’ Democratic leadership in the New Hampshire House passed a 15-cent per gallon tax increase. This action by those Democrats illustrates Governor Lynch’s inability to get the members of his own party to follow his agenda in the Legislature.

During his first bid for re-election in 2006, the Governor made his opposition to a gas tax increase one of centerpiece the issues of his campaign.
