Shea-Porter says stimulus bill should include accountability measures

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) told PolitickerNH.com that a potential stimulus bill should include a way to track the money that will be spent.

"We're still talking about what will actually be in that bill, but my main emphasis is obviously it needs to stimulate the economy," Shea-Porter said. "We need to have tough accountability for the dollars because this is a tremendous expenditure, and I will absolutely insist on the accountability part of it.

Bestani forms committee to explore congressional bid

Robert Bestani, a Republican economist from Newmarket, has officially formed an exploratory committee to determine whether or not he will run against U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) in 2010.

Bestani said that he has formed the Friends of Bob Bestani for Congress exploratory committee because he has the experience to deal with the economic problems facing the country.

Infantine considering challenging Shea-Porter

State Rep. Will Infantine (R-Manchester) said that he will decide within the two or three months whether or not he will run for congress in 2010.

"We're not even in 2009, and we're only 30 days post-election," Infantine said in an interview with PolitickerNH.com. "There's a lot of discussions that need to be had with certain people, with family and business obligations."

The Union Leader reported this past weekend that Infantine is considering challenging U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter in 2010.

Hodes, Shea-Porter vote for auto bailout

U.S. Reps. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) and Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) each voted in favor of a plan that would provide loans to automobile companies to help prevent them from falling into bankruptcy.

The House voted 237-170 Wednesday night to approve a bailout that would give American car companies $14 billion in loans that would last them until March.

Bestani considering congressional run

Robert Bestani (R-Newmarket) is thinking about running for congress in the 1st Congressional District, The Nashua Telegraph reports.

Bestani is a former Treasury Department official and as worked at companies such as Citibank and Bank of America.

Bestani would be running against two-term U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

Bradley outspent Shea-Porter in final weeks of campaign

Financial reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission show that in the final weeks of the campaign former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) outspent U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

However, the money advantage did help Bradley since he lost to Shea-Porter and Shea-Porter outspent, and outraised, Bradley for the entire cycle.

Shea-Porter tells supporters she’ll work ‘for rest of us’

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) told supporters in an e-mail that she has already met with congressional staff to lay-out her legislative agenda for the next session.

Shea-Porter was elected to a second term when she defeated former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) on Election Day.

Bradley attributes defeat to national tide

Former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) is blaming a national Democratic tide for his defeat to U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

It was Bradley's second lost to Shea-Porter. In 2006, Shea-Porter pulled off a close upset against Bradley and this time around she beat him by over 20,000 votes.

"It was a nationwide tide against Republicans," Bradley said. "We were blamed for what happened with the economy and obviously other things and people felt the Democrats could bring the kind of change they wanted."

Bradley says ‘very unlikely’ he will run in 2010

Former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) said that it is "very unlikely" his name will appear on the ballot in 2010, but did not rule out running for political office in the future.

Bradley lost to incumbent U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) on Election Day, but told supporters that he might run again for Congress.

"Save those signs," Bradley said last Tuesday.

However, today he said that it is "very unlikely" he will run for office in 2010.
