Horn 'offended' by Hodes Iraq comment

MANCHESTER--The second debate between Jennifer Horn (R-Nashua) and U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) was marked by a fierce exchange over the war in Iraq.

Horn said she was "offended" when Hodes said that the increase in troop levels has helped secure Iraq "by some extent."

"To some extent more boots on the ground probably helped," Hodes said. Hodes also credited the sectioning of Baghdad into ethic neighborhoods as a reason for the decrease of violence in Iraq.

‘Plumber Joe’ makes debut in 1st CD debate

MANCHESTER--The voter who took center stage in last night's presidential debate was referenced again in a debate between former U.S. Rep. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) and current U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester).

Bradley brought up "Joe the plumber" in an answer on Social Security. During the final presidential debate, both John McCain and Barack Obama used "Joe the plumber" as a reference to discuss their plans for middle-class voters.

Shaheen attempts to frame general election message

MANCHESTER--Former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) sought to tie her opponent, U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley), to President Bush in a speech titled "A New Economic Direction for New Hampshire."

Shaheen said Sununu is tied to Bush's economic policies and argued that her policies would change the direction of New Hampshire.

Republicans responded that Shaheen is attempting to hide her record as governor.
