U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg and U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes has released statements about President Obama's budget. Below are the key parts from their statements.

U.S. Sen. Gregg remarks at yesterday’s Senate Budget Committee hearing on the President Obama’s FY10 Budget Proposal:

“The budget on balance spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much, it’s that simple.”

“I do not argue with the fact that we are in a severe economic downturn…the government has had to step up with a massive injection, an historic injection, of liquidity to try to move the markets and move the economy forward, and that has cost money in the short-run and we accept that.

Sunlight: Hodes Introduces Bill to Preserve WH Email

Because while we're working to put Karl Rove behind bars, we should simultaneously be working to make sure the Spawn of Rove in the Future can't hide their shenanigans behind the latest version of The Computer Ate My Homework (email release):
"The people of the United States deserve an open and honest record of the actions of all administrations, regardless of party," Congressman Paul Hodes said. "This bill will ensure that actions taken by the Executive Branch are transparent and that they can be held accountable to the public."

Committee investigations have revealed that during the Bush Administration, numerous White House officials - including former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove - used e-mail accounts maintained by the Republican National Committee, which regularly deleted the e-mails from its servers.

Congressman Paul Hodes Introduces Legislation to Preserve White House Records

Elections, Hope, Change

Elections result in change.

Yesterday that change meant not having to suffer through any more of Bush and Sununu's barriers to science.

One of New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen's granddaughters was at the White House when President Barack Obama formally signed an executive order opening the door for more stem cell research.

Shaheen says she has long favored embryonic stem cell research, but the issue became personal when granddaughter Elle was diagnosed with diabetes.

Obama on Monday reversed a ban on federal funding for the research.

Carol Shea-Porter:
"Today, President Obama has given hope to the millions of Americans suffering from Type 1 Diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and spinal cord injuries.

Horn: ‘absolutely, very seriously considering a run’

Former congressional candidate Jennifer Horn (R-NH) is “absolutely, very seriously considering” running for political office in 2010, The Keene Sentinel is reporting.

Horn, who ran unsuccessful for congress in 2008, said that she is leaning towards running for the Second Congressional District seat but has not ruled out running for another office.

“But that doesn’t mean, as a lot of people have tried to suggest, that I’m going to run against Paul Hodes for Senate,” The Sentinel reports. “I’m more strongly considering a run for the House, but I have not decided against anything. It is highly likely I’ll run, but it is notdefinite.”

Horn was defeated by U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH), who has decided to run for the United States Senate in 2010.

Horn also said that will be hosting a radio show on WSMN starting April 6.

We're Still the One

We're number one! We're number one! On Cillizza's line, anyway:
1. New Hampshire (R): The Granite State has been the epicenter of Republicans' decline in the Northeast over the las few elections. In 2006, both GOP House members were defeated and in 2008 Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D) beat incumbent John Sununu (R). That trend spells trouble for Republicans' chances in the open seat being left behind by Sen. Judd Gregg (R) in 2010. Rep. Paul Hodes is already in the race on the Democratic side and wins strong reviews from national Democrats although Rep. Carol Shea-Porter continues to leave open the possibility of a primary challenge.

NH-02 Straw Poll

With the cold winds of hopefully the final(?) winter storm swirling around us, it's easy to forget how hot things will become with the NH-02 Race.

Paul Hodes has announced his intention to run for AWOL Gregg, "The Pork Profiteer's", Senate seat leaving the the NH-02 seat up for grabs.

This seat is ripe for a great Democratic Primary. In recent Presidential Primaries NH-02 has shown a slight preference for candidates such as Howard Dean and Barack Obama. Tapping in to that style of leadership and running that sort of a campaign may give newcomers a real shot. NH-02 is a couple of points in the D's favor out of the gate, so no need to be a centrist for centrism's sake.

NH-02: "Pure Toss-Up"

That's what Stu Rothenberg, in his first House rankings for the 2010 cycle, called the spot Paul Hodes will leave vacant in CD2.

Now, I know any open seat automatically increases the competitiveness of it, and I know that before Paul won the spot in 2006 it was held by the BassMaster for a good long while.  And of course whoever the nominee is will have to work overtime to earn the trust and support of the western half of the Granite State.

But even a cursory glance at the voting returns of the second district in the past few cycles should elicit a sense that this is fertile territory for Democrats.
