PolitickerNH hits the campaign trail

Over the next two days PolitickerNH.com will be updating the site from the Lakes region.

We will be attending a debate between Jeb Bradley and John Stephen, moderating an event with the New Hampshire Farm Bureau Federation and New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association, where candidates will be speaking from a tree stump, and interviewing various political insiders.

Be sure to check-in for updates as we hit the campaign trail.

Later in the week we will also be spending a day in Nashua and having another "day on the trail" segment.

Shaheen continues ‘middle class’ tour

DERRY- Visiting patrons at Derry's MaryAnn's Diner, Democratic senatorial candidate Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury), listened to concerns about a declining economy.

The stop was part of her three-day "Middle Class Matters" tour.

Explaining the current state of the economy Shaheen said, "it's a huge issue people are experiencing."

Shaheen recounted a story of a single mother who is worrier her song will not be able to afford college and another story about a small business owner whose business recently closed.

NH CRs hear from Congressional candidates

HANOVER- On night when many college students would be out partying, fifty-five New Hampshire College Republicans gathered to hear speeches from four Congressional candidates. 

The College Republicans were attending their fifth statewide convention.

The Republicans heard from State Sen. Bob Clegg (R-Hudson), Grant Bosse (R-Hillsboro), John Stephen (R-Manchester) and former Congressman Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro).  New Hampshire Republican Chairman Fergus Cullen and Matt Bartlett, a field organizer from the ONE campaign, also spoke to the group.

Bosse takes no earmarks pledge

Second Congressional candidate Grant Bosse (R-Hillsboro) has pledged not to seek any earmarks if he is elected to Congress.

"Congress is addicted to earmarks, and the only way to kick the habit is to go cold turkey," Bosse said in a statement.

The group FreedomWorks wants all federal candidates to sign a similar pledge.

Bosse also urged his fellow Republican candidates to sign the pledge.

DHS postpones Real ID requirements

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has decided to postpone imposing Real ID requirements on New Hampshire citizens.

DHS announced that the government would give New Hampshire until December 31, 2009 to meet the Real ID requirements. The extension means that Granite State residents can continue to use their drivers' licenses for federal purposes.

NH GOP leadership endorses McCain

The New Hampshire Republican Party's leadership has endorsed U.S. Sen. John McCain.

"With Senator McCain clinching the nomination, I am pleased to announce that National Committeewoman Phyllis Woods, National Committeeman Sean Mahoney, and I heartily endorse Senator McCain," Republican state Chairman Fergus Cullen announced in a statement.

State party bylaws prevented the three from endorsing a presidential candidate until the nomination was decided.
