Sunlight: Hodes Introduces Bill to Preserve WH Email

Because while we're working to put Karl Rove behind bars, we should simultaneously be working to make sure the Spawn of Rove in the Future can't hide their shenanigans behind the latest version of The Computer Ate My Homework (email release):
"The people of the United States deserve an open and honest record of the actions of all administrations, regardless of party," Congressman Paul Hodes said. "This bill will ensure that actions taken by the Executive Branch are transparent and that they can be held accountable to the public."

Committee investigations have revealed that during the Bush Administration, numerous White House officials - including former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove - used e-mail accounts maintained by the Republican National Committee, which regularly deleted the e-mails from its servers.

Uh,Oh. Who's Going to Tell the Supreme Leader?

A cherry on top of what can be charitably called the worst month of Judd Gregg's senate career:New Hampshire Republican Judd Gregg , however, disputed the notion that GOP lawmakers want Obama's fiscal policy to fail. He suggested Reid's comments were prompted by a flap within the Republican Party over statements made by conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

"Most of us want to see the president succeed because this country's in such dire straits, that unless this administration's successful, we're not going to get out of it," said Gregg, who was Obama's first pick to head the Commerce Department but withdrew from consideration.

But who will tell him?

(Of course, Gregg's self-serving quote is preposterous, as is shown by his forceful opposition so far to the Administration's economic policy. But the line in the sand to RNC Virtual Chair Limbaugh remains.)

Hmm, should hope spring eternal?

I have been saying for a while that two words that Republicans should be highly contemplating bringing back into use are "accountability" and "discipline"; you also cannot have one without the other.  You cannot use one without the other.  As noted earlier, Republicans in TN and CA have used both (I do need to do a follow up on these actions sometime in the future...).

The question I pondered was if the national party was going to do something to the Triad that deserted their comrades in the House and the Senate:  Snowe, Collins, and Specter.  Seem like that may well happen!

Justice Department says at least 4 others could be charged in phone jamming

The lead prosecutor in the phone jamming case told the  Maine federal judge who is deciding whether to let the government go forward against Jame Tobin with a charge of lying to the FBI about the phone jamming that at least four others could be charged with lying to  investigators and that others knew about the crime before it occurred. The Bangor News reports that:
U.S. Trial Attorney Andrew Levchuk said that at least four other people could be charged with lying to investigators, as Tobin has been.

Levchuk did not name anyone but said that individuals in addition to Tobin, 48, and two others who pleaded guilty and served prison terms had "prior knowledge" of the plan to make repeated hang-up calls to Democratic get-out-the-vote phone banks more than six years ago.

Increasingly Southern GOP Ready to Ditch NH Primary?

This revelation Ambinder caught hold of from an "RNC rules maven" is disturbing, to say the least:
Republican rules for the first time give the members of the Republican National Committee, by a 2/3 vote, the option of adopting a mandatory 2012 state primary election calendar.

States whose legislatures, which may be controlled by Democrats, refuse to schedule a primary that complies with RNC rules face a draconian choice.

Either their party gives up its presidential primary and instead holds (and pays for) a presidential preference caucus -- or the state suffers a loss of 1/2 of its delegates to the 2012 Convention.

Many party leaders, who, for ideological or personal reasons, prefer a low-participation caucus rather than a higher-participation primary, see this Rule as a great opportunity to transform the party.

Granite State Republicans form ‘Draft Sununu’ for RNC chair effort

A group of New Hampshire Republicans is generating momentum for U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) to make a run for Republican National Committee Chairman.

The movement, titled "Draft Sununu," comes days after Sununu lost his re-election campaign to former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury).

The effort includes a website called "Draft Sununu," as well as a Facebook group that was established by Republican consultant Jim Merrill.

Spaulding casts 24 votes for N.H.

MINNEAPOLIS--Despite being stripped of half the delegation, during the roll call of the Republican convention, Peter Spaulding announced that the New Hampshire delegation's 24 votes went to U.S. Sen. John McCain.

When asked why he said 24 votes Spaulding told PolitickerNH.com, "cause I feel that we're entitled to 24 votes, how they count them is up to them [the RNC]."

Earlier this year the RNC reduced the official delegation from 24 delegates to 12 because the New Hampshire primary was held earlier than the party rules would allow.
