Could Addison conviction help Ayotte’s political future?

Republicans often site New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte as a rising star within the party and her recent success in high-profile criminal cases has only raised expectations.

Over the past two months, Ayotte's office has successfully tried two capital murder cases. In October, a jury convicted John Brooks of capital murder in a murder-for-hire case and recently Ayotte personally tried Michael Addison for the murder of Manchester police officer Michael Briggs.

Pols look towards 2010

Observers from both parties are looking towards the next election as politicians examine yesterday's election results.

In New Hampshire, the Democrats were able to maintain control of the State House and Executive Council, while they swept the table in the congressional races.

Rich Killion, a Republican consultant, and Steve Marchand, former mayor of Portsmouth, both said that the 2010 election provides opportunities for both political parties.

Polls, Polls, Polls everywhere but what do they mean?

One day the University of New Hampshire releases a poll showing former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) with a small lead over U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley), the next day Rasmussen releases a poll that shows Sununu with a lead over Shaheen.  Both polls showed John McCain with a lead over Barack Obama but Marist College conducted a poll that had Obama beating McCain by three points.

Earlier this week in the 2nd Congressional District, Jennifer Horn's (R-Nashua) campaign released a poll that had Horn in a tight race with U.S. Rep.

Hope you didn’t forget Spradling Day

In case you forgot, yesterday New Hampshire celebrated Scott Spradling Day.

Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) presented Spradling, WMUR's outgoing political director, with a proclamation highlighting Spradling's various journalistic accomplishments.

Spradling is leaving WMUR to start his own consulting group.

Be sure to watch Close Up on Sunday at 10am for his last show.

WMUR makes reporter Sexton temporary fill in for Spradling

WMUR reporter Adam Sexton has been named to replace Scott Spradling, the station's anchor and political director, leaves next month to start a public relations firm.

Sexton said in an e-mail that his position is temporary, though it could become permanent after a national search is completed.

Like Spradling, Sexton is a Syracuse graduate. Known as one of the more cerebral reporters in telesion he won an Emmy in 2007 and while at Syracuse was named one of the top five collegiate television reporters in America. He joined WMUR as a reporter in November.

Exclusive: Spradling to leave WMUR

Scott Spradling, one of the state's most politically powerful people as WMUR-TV's political director, has decided not to renew his contract with New Hampshire's only major news station to set up a consulting firm.

Spradling's last day at the station will be April 11. No replacement has been announced.

The Spradling Group will help businesses with their public relations and become more politically relevant.

Politicos lampoon each other to raise money for fundraiser

Politicians from state Sen. Bob Clegg (R-Hudson) to Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) were the subjects of jokes at this morning's annual New Hampshire Capital St. Patrick's Day Breakfast.

The breakfast is sponsored by The Demers Group with proceeds going to the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHAD).

After 25 minutes spent introducing Republican Congressional candidates Jim Steiner and Jennifer Horn on WMUR's "Close-Up", host Scott Spradling wrapped-up the show by raising significant questions about New Hampshire Republican Chairman Fergus Cullen.

Sunday shows: Lynch passes on announcing re-election

Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) was much more confident as to who would win the Super Bowl than he was about who would win the Democratic presidential nomination or even if he would run for re-election this fall.
