Senior Senator Lame Duck (R-NH)

On both sides of the aisle we're starting to glimpse a future uncluttered with deference to the Senior Senator:"Judd Gregg didn't vote for the stimulus. Does he even care about bringing stimulus money back to New Hampshire?" Grafton County Commissioner Martha Richards, a Holderness Democrat, said at the weekly commissioners' meeting Tuesday morning.

"Apparently by casting his (no) vote, he doesn't have much interest," chimed in Bath Republican Ray Burton, never one to spurn money that might head to the North Country.Of course, on the elephant side, once the UL disowns you...

And can we send this graph from billmon to the Big and Fancy Fiscal Hawk Summit  tomorrow in lieu of the Senior Senator's blueprint for gutting Social Security?

Mr. President? About Social Security...

This isn't accurate, right?

After all the talk about "bi-partisanship" in  general and Judd Gregg in particular, you're not going to let him anywhere near a Social Security "reform" group, are you?

Because that is the LAST place to look for a bipartisan stamp. The Republican Party wants to eliminate Social Security and turn all that FICA money over to the stockbrokers. That's true even of the so-called moderates.

If you decide that cuts in benefits or extensions of the retirement age needed, the absolute worst thing you can do is get a Republican blessing of that conclusion. It would be like getting George Steinbrenner to say how great a Red Sox trade is.
