Brian Colón will resign from the position of chairman of the Democratic Party of New Mexico on Saturday to launch a bid for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor, the party confirmed today on its new blog.

From the party’s blog:

“As many informed Democrats (and those New Mexicans who follow politics) know, our elected party, Chair Brian Colon, is slated to resign as Democratic Party Chair. Although other blogs had stated that this announcement would happen today (Wednesday), Chairman Colon confirmed that he would make his announcement on Friday (August 7) and it would be effective the following day.

Jose Campos is the latest in a seemingly non-stop list of Democrats who want to be the next Lieutenant Governor according to the New Mexico Independent's Heath Haussamen.
Campos, who is also the mayor of Santa Rosa, "will formally announce his candidacy" on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Rudolfo Anaya/Bless Me Ultima monument in Santa Rosa, according to a news release.
I can only imagine how long the opening remarks at a Lieutenant Governor's forum will be with four already in the race, two more considering and state Democratic Party chairman Brian Colon entering the race soon.

The Democratic Party is on the online offensive, pushing their Twitter account through Facebook as well as launching a new blog. With the second blog post, the party addresses the rumors about outgoing state party chairman Brian Colon -- the party confirmed he is resigning his position in the party on Friday, effective Saturday. Colon will be running for Lieutenant Governor as, of course, a Democrat.
Although other blogs had stated that this announcement would happen today (Wednesday), Chairman Colon confirmed that he would make his announcement on Friday (August 7) and it would be effective the following day. He is seeking higher elected office with the Party as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor.

The lawmaker and Santa Rosa mayor will formally announce his candidacy next week

State Rep. Jose Campos, D-Santa Rosa, announced today that he’s running for lieutenant governor next year.

Campos, who is also the mayor of Santa Rosa, “will formally announce his candidacy” on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Rudolfo Anaya/Bless Me Ultima monument in Santa Rosa, according to a news release. Click here for a map.

Campos’ goals include “job growth, economic stability and improved quality of life through the expansion of renewable energy, innovation in education and vocational training, and the promotion of high quality, accessible, and affordable health care,” the news release states.

[New Mexico FBIHOP] Udall seems supportive of Cash for Clunkers despite some concerns

Senator Tom Udall is supportive of the wildly successful Cash for Clunkers program, but still had some of the same concerns as New Mexico's senior Senator, Jeff Bingaman as to where additional funding will be found.

After a meeting with Senate Democrats and President Barack Obama on Tuesday, Udall came away a little less concerned.

The Cash for Clunkers program is a program designed to give consumers a rebate of up to $4500 for trading in their old cars (clunkers) for new, more fuel efficient vehicles. The old vehicles are destroyed.

The birther movement is mockable, deranged and makes all the participants look like the loony conspiracy theorists that they are. Folks call in to talk radio to promote their tinfoil-hat theories and spread their lies and misinformation through the internet.

They stand up and wave their birth certificates and claim Obama has never released his (he did) and generally disrupt any sort of political discourse because of their Obama Derangement Syndrome. They hate him so much they will make up easily-debunked lies to make themselves feel like "He's not my President."

According to CQ Politics, the Republican Party could effectively kill off the birther movement.

It was a case of them holding up a red flag to get a charging bull to stop. I cannot resist commenting on today’s news that the graduation rate from the free education in New Mexico public schools is putrid. By graduation time, the free public education is being discarded by almost half of the students.

To make things worse, putrid politicians are barging around trying to make political hay. Every politician who chortles and grabs for power because of this misfortune needs a swift kick in the keister.

The New Mexico dropout numbers show that, statewide, for every student who graduates from a New Mexico high school another does not.
