DCCC adds Wulsin in OH-2 to Red to Blue

In its fourth round of announcing targeted, competitive races, the DCCC has now added Ohio's 2nd Congressional district race to its Red to Blue program.

Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) is running against U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) for the seat. Entrepreneur David Krikorian (I) is also running. Wulsin joined five other candidates in the latest round of targeted races for "surpassing demanding fundraising goals and skillfully demonstrating to voters that they stand for change and will represent new priorities when elected to Congress."

DCCC chair Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) spoke about the latest round of targeted races and the candidates.

"The candidates for change being named to the DCCC Red to Blue program are running solid campaigns and are committed to making things easier for middle class families in their districts," said Van Hollen "With less than 100 days to make their case for change to voters in their districts, the Red to Blue program will give these candidates the financial and structural edge to be even more competitive in November."

Wulsin communications director Kevin Franck said that the announcement shows Wulsin has the momentum in the race.

"In the last three months, Jean Schmidt has been caught lying about China drilling off the coast of Florida, smearing Vic Wulsin with fake charges and has become the center of an ethics investigation for using her taxpayer-funded congressional staff to run her campaign," Franck said. "Simply put, Jean Schmidt's campaign is coming apart at the seams and Vic Wulsin is only gaining steam."

Wulsin's campaign was added to the targeted races, along with Don Cravins in Louisiana's 7th, Jill Derby in Nevada's 2nd, Kathy Dahlkemper in Pennsylvania's 3rd, Tom Periello in Virginia's 5th, and Judy Feder in Virginia's 10th.

The new campaigns make a total of 44 targeted races on the DCCC's Red to Blue list.

An announcement from the DCCC says that the Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country and offers them financial, communications, and strategic support. It goes on that the program will introduce Democratic supporters to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for these campaigns.

Red to Blue raised nearly $22.6 million for 56 campaigns in 2006, with an average of $404,000 per campaign.
