A Republican in one of the nation’s most hotly contested U.S. House races is getting some NFL-style fundraising help.
Brady Quinn, who broke school records during his four years as a starting quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and who is now playing for the Cleveland Browns, is hosting an Aug. 30 fundraising event for state Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Twp.), a candidate for Ohio’s 16th Congressional District seat.
“If you can have a fundraiser where you can have some excitement and some fun that makes for a better fundraiser,” Schuring said in a telephone interview today.
Schuring is running for the Canton-area seat of Republican U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula, who is retiring after serving 18 terms. Regula is set to host a fundraiser for Schuring tonight. A spokesman for Schuring declined to say how much the Quinn or Regula events would bring in for the campaign.
Schuring is set to face off against state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) in November’s general election.
