Schuring again tossing the political football

State Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Township) is keeping his eye on the ball, the football.

After campaigning with Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn in August, Schuring is now talking up his support from former state Senator and offensive lineman for the Ohio State University and the Cleveland Browns, Dick Schafrath.

Schafrath is being featured on Ashland radio stations in support of Schuring. The ad begins running this week on Ashland County Radio.

Schuring called having somebody with Schafrath's credibility join his team "exciting."

"Not only do residents remember Dick as one tough football player, but he served the Ashland County area well as an elected legislator," Schuring said. "He is well respected for what he's accomplished as an athlete, a Senator and a person."

Schuring said that Schafrath's residence in the district helps him know the people of the 16th Congressional District and what issues affect them.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dick Schafrath and what he stands for, and I am truly grateful for his public support in this race," Schuring said.

Schuring is running against state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre) in the 16th.
