Jean Schmidt seemingly in two places at once

U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) was seemingly in two places at one time last Thursday.

The campaign of her opponent in the race for Ohio's 2nd Congressional District, Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) criticized Schmidt for missing a vote for an $8 billion bill to rescue the federal highway trust fund. The fund relies on the federal gas tax, which has seen declining revenue.

The bill passed 376-29, with 28 members of the U.S. House missing the vote, including Schmidt.

Wulsin spokesperson Kevin Franck criticized Schmidt for missing the vote, asking, "Is there a bigger priority for Jean Schmidt than saving Ohio jobs and money?"

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Schmidt spokesperson Bruce Pfaff said Schmidt "voted in favor of the bill the first time it came up in the House," and said she "missed the latest vote on the measure because she needed to get home for personal reasons related to her daughter, who is pregnant."

The Highway Bill vote was recorded at 4:18 p.m., Roll Call noted that Schmidt, among others, was "lingering in the Chamber" after Congress adjourned. The House listed adjournment at 4:34 p.m, with Roll Call reporting at 5:45 and updating at 6:29.
