Franklin County Dems talk up early and absentee voting for Congressional races

The Franklin County Democratic Party says early voting returns show Democratic turnout surpassing Republicans in Ohio's 15th Congressional District and the other two Congressional seats in Franklin County.

Franklin Co. Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy (D-Columbus) is running against state Sen. Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) in the 15th.

According to the party, in-person and absentee voting by registered Democrats from Sept. 30 to Nov. 4 make up majorities or pluralities in the 15th, as well as Ohio's 7th and 12th Congressional Districts, which each include a portion of Franklin County. The raw totals can be found at the Franklin Co. Board of Election's Web site.

Total early Franklin County votes cast in the three races amounted to 24,736, or 47.80 percent, for Democrats. For Republicans, the numbers were 1,942, or 3.75 percent. Unaffiliated voters came in at 25,071, or 48.45 percent.

Franklin County absentee voting in the three Congressional races totaled 88,954 Democrats, 40,264 Republicans and 92,106 unaffiliated voters. These numbers show Democrats with 40.19 percent of the total, Republicans at 18.19 percent and unaffiliated voters accounting for 41.62 percent. 

Early voting numbers in Ohio's 15th show 10,204 Democrats turning out to vote at Franklin County Veterans Memorial, compared to 1,061 Republicans and 11,688 unaffiliated voters. The total early voting in the district amounted to 22,953, with Democratic turnout accounting for 44.46 percent, unaffiliated turnout at 50.92 percent and Republican turnout at 4.62 percent.

Absentee returns for the 15th show 41,771 Democrats voting, compared to 21,539 Republicans and 45,025 unaffiliated. Absentee percentages come in at 38.56 percent Democratic, 19.88 percent Republican and 41.56 percent unaffiliated. 

In Ohio's 12th Congressional District, businessman David W. Robinson (D-Columbus) is challenging U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Westerville).

Early voting at Veterans Memorial show 12,545 Democrats turned out in Ohio's 12th, compared to 758 Republicans and 11,440 unaffiliated voters. The numbers show that Democrats account for 50.70 percent of early voters, while Republicans come in at 3.06 percent and unaffiliated voters at 46.24 percent. 

In Franklin County, 40,454 Democrats filed absentee ballots in the 12th along with 15,727 Republicans and 40,238 unaffiliated. These numbers show Democrats accounting for 38.56 percent of the absentee vote in Ohio's 12th, while Republicans made up 16.31 percent and unaffiliated voters accounted for 41.73 percent.

State Sen. Steve Austria (R-Beavercreek) and attorney Sharen Neuhardt (D-Yellow Springs) are vying to replace retiring U.S. Rep. David Hobson (R-Springfield) in Ohio's 7th District. A portion of southeast Franklin County is included in the 7th.

The numbers show 1,987 Democrats came to Veterans Memorial to cast ballots early in the 7th, compared to 123 Republicans and 1,943 unaffiliated voters. Democratic early voting accounted for 49.03 percent of the total, with Republicans taking 3.03 percent and unaffiliated voters at 47.94 percent.

Democrats from Franklin County who cast absentee ballots totaled 6,729 voters, with Republicans at 2,998 and unaffiliated voters casting 6,843 ballots. The Democratic number accounts for 40.61 percent of Franklin County voters casting absentee ballots for Ohio's 7th, while Republicans came in at 18.09 percent and unaffiliated voters at 41.30 percent.
