Final look at U.S. House spending in 3 big races

Democrats' two U.S. House pick ups on Election Day and the unresolved 15th Congressional District race reported their final fundraising totals.

Federal Election Commission post-general election finance reports show Democrats outspent Republicans in two of these races.

In the 15th Congressional District, Mary Jo Kilroy (D-Columbus) spent $2.66 million against Steve Stivers (R-Columbus), who spent $1.95 million in 2008. From Oct. 16 to Nov. 24, Kilroy spent $67,000 more than Stivers did. However, Stivers still has $153,000 in cash on hand to Kilroy's $63,000. Those funds may be used as legal challenges and recounts embroil the race.

In the 16th Congressional District, John Boccieri (D-Alliance) outspent Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) by about $450,000 during the election cycle. Boccieri beat Schuring by 10 percent.

However, the Republican loser in the 1st Congressional District greatly outspent his Democratic opponent. U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Cincinnati) spent $1.15 million more than Steve Driehaus (D-Price Hill) during the 2008 cycle. However, Chabot lost 48.5 percent to 51.5 percent.
