Space, Sutton fill Ohio's gap on U.S. House Energy, Commerce Committee

U.S. Reps. Zack Space (D-Dover) and Betty Sutton (D-Copley) have won seats on the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee and are the first Ohioans to sit on the committee in two years.

The last Ohio U.S. representatives to serve on the committee were Ted Strickland and Sherrod Brown who left in 2007.

Space said he'll be able to help his district and the state in the new position.

“This position will give me greater ability to support job creation in the district deploying broadband technology, developing new sources of advanced energy, and caring for our aging population through the expansion of health training," he said in a statement.

Sutton said she's honored to serve on the committe and looks forward to its opportunities to help Ohio.

“We as a Congress now have an incredible opportunity to work with President-Elect Obama to support renewable and alternative energy initiatives, invest in the development of green jobs and enact a healthcare policy that will make access to quality and affordable healthcare a reality for the millions of Americans for whom it remains out of reach."
