Lungren to challenge Boehner for House GOP leader

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.) will challenge U.S. Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) for his position as House Minority Leader.

"After discussions with several of my colleagues, it has become increasingly clear to me that we must not revert to "business as usual" in the selection of our House Republican Leadership.  It is undeniable that the American people are tired of the way congress has conducted its business on their behalf," Lungren said in a statement this afternoon.

Kaptur seeks House Caucus leadership

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Toledo) is jumping into the race for vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus, she has announced in a letter to her colleagues.

"I can articulate the bread and butter issues that will be most important to the American people," Kaptur wrote in the letter, "and as a heartland representative I can well represent the spectrum of our Caucus."

Dems boost spending in race for Pryce seat

WASHINGTON - National Democrats are boosting their investment for the final week of campaigning in the hotly contested race for Ohio's 15th Congressional District.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has purchased an additional $100,000 of advertising time in the Columbus-area district, according to a well-placed Democratic source familiar with the committee's buying plans. In total, the DCCC has reserved $600,000 in ad time on local stations for the last week of the campaign.

NRCC reduces time for Schuring

WASHINGTON - House Republicans have slashed advertising time in the hotly contested race for Ohio's 16th Congressional District, the National Republican Congressional Committee confirmed today.

The NRCC had reserved $820,000 to spend over two weeks in the race between state Sens. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Township) and John Boccieri (D-Alliance), but it has decided to eliminate its second week of advertising, which was worth about $320,000.

Dem poll shows Kilroy leading

A new poll conducted for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee shows Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy holding a lead over her Republican opponent in the race for the seat of retiring U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus).

The Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research poll shows Kilroy leading state Sen. Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) 44 percent to 36 percent, with Independent Don Eckhart picking up 7 percent. The survey of 401 likely voters, conducted Sept. 30 – Oct. 1, has an error margin of 4.9 percent.
