Brown and Voinovich express disappointment in failure of Senate to pass auto aid legislation

U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Lorain) and George Voinovich (R-Cleveland) expressed disappointment late Thursday following the failure to break the Republican filibuster of legislation to provide bridge loans to the U.S. auto industry.

"It's unfathomable to me that Senate Republicans would turn their backs on millions of American families," Brown said. "During the recent campaign we heard a lot from Republicans about the people that make up the real America and even the Carhartts they wear. I guess that was then."

Redfern hits Ohio GOP Reps who voted against auto aid legislation

Strickland touts component parts manufacturing at wind energy conference

Ohio Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland has put a focus on alternative energy manufacturing in Ohio, both during the campaign season, and in statements supporting federal assistance to the auto industry. 

This week Strickland spoke at the American Wind Energy Association Wind Power Supply Chain Workshop in Cleveland, where he advocated Ohio's role in the development of wind power technology. Strickland spoke to over 800 individuals attending the workshop from more than 30 states.

Latta and Schmidt explain reasons for voting against auto bailout

U.S. Reps. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) and Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) gave their reasons for voting against legislation passed in the U.S. House that seeks to give $14 billion in bridge loans to companies of the American auto industry.

 "The auto industry is a critical segment of our nation's economy, especially in Ohio," Latta said. "During the testimony from the ‘Detroit 3' and the drafting of this legislation, important questions remain unanswered that put the American taxpayer at serious risk."

Harris says she hopes to win trust of opponents’ supporters after victory

Marian Harris (D-Columbus) is thanking supporters and saying she hopes she can win the trust of those who didn't vote for her after she has now won her race for state representative of Ohio's 19th House district. 

"Now that the election is finally over and the results are in, I would like to thank all those that voted for me," Harris said in a release. "For those that did not vote for me, I hope I can win your trust and represent you in a way that best serves the community."

Boehner argues for House Republican alternative auto industry legislation

Strickland says he’d veto veterans’ bonus as legislation stands

Brown says aid to auto industry is investment in middle class

As Congress continued to discuss providing bridge loans to the auto industry, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Lorain) released a statement Tuesday conveying his support for the measures.

"Aid for the auto industry is an investment in our nation's middle class and I'm glad the White House is now at the table," Brown said. "Millions of American jobs are at stake. The auto industry has agreed to strict oversight measures and has provided plans on how they'll use taxpayer funds."

Brown wants Canton federal building named after Regula

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Lorain) is calling on the U.S. General Services Administration to name the Federal Building in Canton after retiring U.S. Representative Ralph Regula (R-Navarre).

 On Dec. 11, 2008, the city of Canton will break ground on a new federal building at McKinley Avenue and Third Street, S.W., in Canton.
