Strickland touts component parts manufacturing at wind energy conference

Ohio Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland has put a focus on alternative energy manufacturing in Ohio, both during the campaign season, and in statements supporting federal assistance to the auto industry. 

This week Strickland spoke at the American Wind Energy Association Wind Power Supply Chain Workshop in Cleveland, where he advocated Ohio's role in the development of wind power technology. Strickland spoke to over 800 individuals attending the workshop from more than 30 states.

Harris says she hopes to win trust of opponents’ supporters after victory

Marian Harris (D-Columbus) is thanking supporters and saying she hopes she can win the trust of those who didn't vote for her after she has now won her race for state representative of Ohio's 19th House district. 

"Now that the election is finally over and the results are in, I would like to thank all those that voted for me," Harris said in a release. "For those that did not vote for me, I hope I can win your trust and represent you in a way that best serves the community."

DCCC buried defeated Republicans with $6M

Democrats carried three U.S. House seats in Ohio this year by riding an avalanche of cash from their congressional committee. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent three times as much on the races than its Republican counterpart, according to Federal Election Commission reports.

The DCCC spent $6.02 million on the 1st, 15th, and 16th Congressional District races from July 1 to Election Day. Meanwhile, the National Republican Campaign Committee spent about $2 million across the 1st and 15th districts only.

Kilroy manager: Victory was her own

New U.S. Representative-elect Mary Jo Kilroy's (D-Columbus) campaign manager told PolitickerOH.com that Kilroy's victory was largely her own and came at the cost of the strongest Republican recruit in the country.

When asked if Kilroy owes her success to Barack Obama's candidacy given her narrow loss to U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce in 2006 when there was no presidential contest, campaign manager Randy Borntrager put the credit firmly on Kilroy's shoulders.

Carey takes on ‘Golden Week,’ election security in column

State Sen. John Carey (R-Wellston) is taking on election security and his argument to eliminate the election "Golden Week" in his weekly column. 

Carey used his column to talk up Senate Bill 380 - Republican-sponsored legislation that seeks to end the 5-day overlap that allowed Ohioans to both register and vote on the same day during the 2008 Election. The bill would also allow for bipartisan observers at early voting locations.

Mahoning recommends candidates to replace Boccieri

The Mahoning County Democratic Party executive committee has made its three recommendations to the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus to fill the vacancy left by Congressman-elect John Boccieri (D-Alliance) in Ohio's 33rd Senate District. 

The Youngstown Vindicator reported that the three selected include ex-Mahoning County Commissioner David Engler; Struthers Councilman-at large Daniel R. Yemma; and Poland Trustee Robert Lidle.

Brunner’s office responds to GOP hit by pointing to other editorials

The Ohio Republican Party went after Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner on Tuesday by accusing her of now supporting positions that she opposed during the campaign season.

The GOP is saying that Brunner has changed positions on the so-called "Golden Week" - a weeklong period of overlap of voter registration and early voting that allows just-registered voters to vote the same day as registering.

Ohio GOP: Brunner now seeking election changes she fought against

The Ohio Republican Party released a "research briefing" on Tuesday that accuses Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner of now seeking election changes that she fought against during the campaign season.

"Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner fought hard during the 2008 Elections to ensure that her party had distinct advantages at the polls," the Ohio GOP said in a release. "Now, with victory under her belt, she has reversed her positions on basic voter fraud protections."

NRCC hitting Driehaus, Boccieri and Space for support from Rangel

Continuing a criticism lobbed during the campaign season, the National Republican Congressional Committee is criticizing U.S. Rep. Zack Space (D-Dover), as well as Congressmen-elects Steve Driehaus (D-Price Hill) and John Boccieri (D-Alliance), for their campaign connections to embattled U.S. Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.). 

The NRCC issued the criticism of the two, who have yet to take office, after the Washington Post penned an editorial saying that Rangel should step down from his chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Stivers camp touts Madison County results, Kilroy camp says it’s happy too

The campaign of state Sen. Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) sent a release Tuesday touting the official results from the Madison County Board of Elections in the race for Ohio's 15th Congressional District.

Stivers and his opponent, Franklin Co. Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy (D-Columbus), are awaiting the official vote tallies in their race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus).

The Stivers camp said that the Madison County totals resulted in a net gain of 115 additional votes for Stivers in the race.
