Cordray: new treasurer announcement likely in Dec.

Expect to know who will be Ohio’s next treasurer by December

Outgoing State Treasurer Richard Cordray (D) told PolitickerOH.com that it’s likely that the governor will announce his appointment for the position next month. Cordray is leaving the office to become attorney general, replacing Interim Attorney General Nancy Rogers.

Cordray said he’s spoken to Gov. Ted Strickland (D) about his successor.

Coleman backs Boyce for treasurer appointment

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman (D) is ready to support city councilman Kevin Boyce (D) for treasurer – if Boyce wants it.

Coleman told PolitickerOH.com yesterday he would support Boyce if he’s seeking an appointment to the treasurer’s office by Gov. Ted Strickland should state Treasurer Richard Cordray win the attorney general’s race.

"Obviously if Kevin Boyce were interested in being the treasurer, I would support Kevin Boyce," Coleman said.

Ohio Young Black Democrats organization is back and targeting OH-1, 12 and 16

Back in the late 1970s, an organization was formed by some young, motivated Franklin County black Democrats. They included Michael B. Coleman, who went on to become Mayor of Columbus; Bill Anthony, who went on to become chairman of the Franklin County Democratic Party; and Patsy Thomas, who went on to serve as an Ohio judge.

Celeste: leadership race 'not a done deal'

State Rep. Ted Celeste (D-Grandview Heights) spoke briefly to PolitickerOH.com about the House leadership race he's involved in with state Rep. Armond Budish (D-Beachwood).

Two weeks ago, Ohio Democratic Party Chair Chris Redfern publically endorsed Budish for caucus leader, which led to Franklin Co. Democratic Party Chair Bill Anthony to repudiate Redfern in a public statement.

Celeste was asked what he thought about Redfern's power play inside the leadership race.

Redfern rebuked by Franklin Dem chair on House leader race

In what can only be described as an rare public fight, Franklin County's Democratic chair Bill Anthony went public with his dismay over Ohio Democratic Party chair Chris Redfern's endorsement in House Democrats' race for leader.

Redfern endorsed state Rep. Armond Budish (D-Beachwood) to replace state Rep. Joyce Beatty as his party's leader in the House. Redfern, who will be leaving the House next year due to term limits, has caused a row inside the Democratic Party.
