Libertarian says he didn't draw votes from Kilroy, Stivers

While no one knows whether Steve Stivers or Mary Jo Kilroy has won the race for the 15th Congressional District, it’s clear that libertarian Mark Noble did better than expected.

Noble won almost 5 percent – or more than 13,000 votes – on Election Day. The last pre-election poll for the race showed Noble with 2 percent support. With about 400 votes separating Stivers (R-Columbus) and Kilroy (D-Columbus), one wonders if some of Noble’s supporters would have voted for either of the major-party candidates had he not run.

Independent Eckhart speaks about campaign

Independent candidate for the 15th Congressional District Don Eckhart appears to have won about 4 percent of the vote by running on a conservative social and economic platform, which was seen by some as a potential threat to Republican candidate Steve Stivers.

According to unofficial results from the Franklin County Board of Elections, which includes totals from Union and Madison counties, Stivers won 49 percent, Mary Jo Kilroy (D-Columbus) received about 42 percent, Eckhart 4 percent, and libertarian Mark Noble almost 5 percent.

Eckhart: no bailout

The crisis gripping the country is as much political as it is financial, according to the independent candidate running for the 15th Congressional District.

Don Eckhart said he is opposed to a government bailout of private companies and likens Washington’s reaction to it as a larger version of the decision to mail stimulus checks this spring: an expensive band-aid to put off a real solution.

Kilroy, Stivers tone down attacks while redefining themselves in debate

COLUMBUS – The first debate of the long race for the 15th Congressional district was a quieter version of the vociferous back-and-forth between campaigns in the press, but largely sounded the same themes.

Franklin Co. Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy (D-Columbus), state Sen. Steve Stivers (R-Columbus) and Donald Eckhart (I-Madison Co.) attended the AARP debate broadcast by NBC 4 Tuesday night.
