Schmidt camp calls Wulsin ‘hypocrite’ over ad about gas tax

The campaign of U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) responded to an ad being run by opponent Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) that hits Schmidt on Ohio's gas tax by calling Wulsin a "hypocrite."

Wulsin's ad hits Schmidt for her vote in support of Ohio's 2003 transportation bill, which raised the state gas tax by six cents over three years from 22 cents to 28 cents.

Wulsin goes after Schmidt on 2003 gas tax increase in OH-2

In a new television ad, the campaign of Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) is going after U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) for her vote on Ohio's 2003 transportation budget, which raised the state gas tax by 6 cents per gallon over the course of three years.

Wulsin communications director Kevin Franck criticized Schmidt for supporting the "27 percent" increase in Ohio's gas tax because he said it "hurt middle class families across the district who are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of a gallon of gas."

Schuring denounces outside groups influencing race for 16th

Conservative political advocacy group Freedom's Watch announced last week that it would be running radio ads against Democratic Congressional candidates state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) and Franklin Co. Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy (D-Columbus).

The ads running against Boccieri hit him on the issue of inaction to lower gas prices, just as robocalls from the group did last month.

Schuring, Boccieri accuse each other of hiding from past votes

State Sens. John Boccieri (D-New Middletown) and Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) each have a record in the Ohio legislature, in both the state Senate and the state House of Representatives. Schuring entered the House in 1993 and the Senate in 2002. Boccieri served in the House from 2001 to 2006 before being elected to the Senate.

Now, both campaigns are targeting their opponent's voting records, and saying that the other is attempting to run away.

The campaign of state Sen. John Boccieri (D-New Middletown) has created a YouTube response video to a spat the campaign has been having with opponent state Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Canton).

The campaigns have been tussling over the energy issue, with the latest coming from the Boccieri campaign on Monday, following opinion columns from each candidate in the Canton Repository.

John Boccieri (D-New Middletown) to apologize, renounce the behavior of and fire a pair of Boccieri staffers that the Schuring campaign says "marched unannounced into the Schuring for Congress Headquarters" in Canton this morning.

Boccieri speaks at gas station, calls for energy innovation in Ohio

WEST CANTON -- State Sen. John Boccieri (D-New Middletown) spoke at a Sunoco station Tuesday morning to discuss the matter of high gas prices and its effect on the economy. Boccieri called for the development of alternative sources of energy and energy innovation in Ohio.

Boccieri was joined by Canton Mayor William Healy (D-Canton) and is running against State Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre).

Internal Poll has Wulsin ‘within striking distance’

Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) in the race for Ohio's 2nd Congressional district.

The poll has Schmidt leading Wulsin 41 percent to 33 percent in the district, which Momentum Analysis called "within striking distance" in a memo to the Wulsin campaign.
