Legislators can start working before they join assembly

Those who’ve been elected to the General Assembly can start working on legislation even before they are inaugurated.
 
The Legislative Service Commission works with freshmen state senators and representatives on crafting bills before they formally join the body in January.
 
LSC Director Mark Flanders said incoming members are treated as current members.

Consulting firm uses business marketing as campaign tactic

Local business-consulting firm helped  two state House candidates craft their winning political messages

Cincinnati-based political consulting firm Seidewitz Group worked on the campaigns of John Carney (D-Dublin) and Connie Pillich (D-Montgomery), helping them research voters before buying media. Seidewitz Group uses business-marketing principles in political campaigns, vice president of political consulting Chris Seelbach said.

Carney out with ad featuring Glenn endorsement

Healthcare attorney John Carney (D-Clintonville) is out with a TV ad featuring former U.S. Sen. John Glenn (D) in his race to represent Ohio's 22nd House District.

Carney is running against Dublin City Councilman Michael Keenan (R-Dublin) to replace term-limited state Rep. Jim Hughes (R-Clintonville). This is Carney's second effort at the seat. He was defeated by Hughes by six points in 2006. The district includes the Clintonville neighborhoods of Columbus and stretches northwest to Dublin.

Garland, Carney 'lobbyists disguised as candidates,' says GOP state House ad

The Ohio House Republican Campaign Caucus has begun airing its first television ads in the battle to keep the state House.

This ad attacks Democratic candidates for two districts in suburban Columbus: attorney John Carney and Ohio Physical Therapists Association Director Nancy Garland.

Garland was the treasurer for OPTA's political action committee and lobbied as a government-affairs director for the American Physical Therapy Assocation in Washington, D.C.

COLUMBUS -- Health Care attorney John Carney (D-Clintonville) held a fundraiser last night with Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman (D-Columbus) at the downtown eatery Due Amici Wednesday night.

Also present at the event was state Rep. Ted Celeste (D-Grandview) and state Rep. Armond Budish (D-Beachwood). The two representatives are each vying for Democratic leadership next year and are courting the support of potential newcomers to the state legislature.

Carney launches headquarters with canvassing push
