Strickland raises big money - for himself

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland raised more than $2 million for his campaign committee in 2008, according to his latest finance report filed with the Ohio Secretary of State's office.

Strickland, who broke fund-raising records in his 2006 campaign for governor, took in $1.6 million during the last six months of the year. He raised $422,000 in the first half of the year. He spent about $275,000 in the last six months but still has $2 million in the bank.

Stickland has only recently kicked off his 2010 re-election campaign.

Fmr. treasurer candidates unlikely to get appointment

Two Democrats who've run for state treasurer said they have not spoken to Gov. Ted Strickland's office about being appointed to fill current Treasurer Richard Cordray's position.

Montgomery County Recorder Willis Blackshear told PolitickerOH.com that he has not spoken to Strickland's office about an appointment to treasurer now that Cordray is moving to the attorney general's office. Blackshear ran for the Democratic treasurer nomination in 2002 but lost to Mary Boyle.

Gov's office wants African-American for treasurer, says official

The governor's office wants to appoint an African-American to become state treasurer, according to Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis.

Rokakis told PolitickerOH.com late Monday that he's not interested in being appointed by Gov. Ted Strickland to replace Richard Cordray as treasurer. However, Rokakis heard from "somebody close" to Strickland that the appointee will be black.

Cordray: new treasurer announcement likely in Dec.

Expect to know who will be Ohio’s next treasurer by December

Outgoing State Treasurer Richard Cordray (D) told PolitickerOH.com that it’s likely that the governor will announce his appointment for the position next month. Cordray is leaving the office to become attorney general, replacing Interim Attorney General Nancy Rogers.

Cordray said he’s spoken to Gov. Ted Strickland (D) about his successor.

Coleman backs Boyce for treasurer appointment

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman (D) is ready to support city councilman Kevin Boyce (D) for treasurer – if Boyce wants it.

Coleman told PolitickerOH.com yesterday he would support Boyce if he’s seeking an appointment to the treasurer’s office by Gov. Ted Strickland should state Treasurer Richard Cordray win the attorney general’s race.

"Obviously if Kevin Boyce were interested in being the treasurer, I would support Kevin Boyce," Coleman said.
