DCCC buried defeated Republicans with $6M

Democrats carried three U.S. House seats in Ohio this year by riding an avalanche of cash from their congressional committee. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent three times as much on the races than its Republican counterpart, according to Federal Election Commission reports.

The DCCC spent $6.02 million on the 1st, 15th, and 16th Congressional District races from July 1 to Election Day. Meanwhile, the National Republican Campaign Committee spent about $2 million across the 1st and 15th districts only.

Boccieri hires Trevena as chief of staff

Congressman-elect John Boccieri (D-Alliance) has hired Anthony Trevena as his chief of staff for when he heads to Washington, D.C. to represent Ohio's 16th Congressional District.

Trevena has worked for Gov. Ted Strickland in various capacities over the years and is from Guilford Lake in Columbiana County.

Trevena took a leave of absence from his position as deputy director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in order to work for the Boccieri campaign.

Schuring camp proud of campaign effort

The campaign of state Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Twp.) is proud of their effort in the race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre) in Ohio's 16th Congressional District.

Schuring came up short in his race against state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance). The Ohio Secretary of State currently shows Boccieri received 55.26 percent of the vote to Schuring's 44.74 percent. Boccieri received 160,894 votes compared to 130,270 for Schuring.

Boccieri looks forward to putting middle-class families first in Congress

State Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) made his campaign in Ohio's 16th Congressional District about putting middle-class families first, and the Congressman-elect is looking forward to doing that in the next session of Congress.

Boccieri beat state Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Twp.) in the race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre). Boccieri will become the first Democrat to represent Ohio's 16th in 58 years.

Canton Repository: Schuring concedes 16th

The Canton Repository is reporting that state Sen. Kirk Schuring has conceded the race for Ohio's 16th Congressional District to opponent state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance).

The two were vying to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre), and the victory will make Boccieri the first Democrat to represent Ohio's 16th in 58 years. Regula has held the seat since 1973.

Schuring had offered his congratulations to Boccieri.

CNN: Boccieri to replace retiring Regula

CNN has projected state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) as the winner in the race to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre) in Ohio's 16th Congressional District.

Boccieri was squaring off with state Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Twp.) for the seat.

Results for the Ohio Secreatary of State as of the time of this report showed Boccieri getting 54.20 percent support in the race compared to 45.80 percent support for Schuring.

The correlating numbers show Boccieri with 104,517 votes compared to 88,317 for Schuring.

Candidates on Election night

The candidates vying for Ohio's Congressional seats have released their public schedules for Election Day and night, and most candidates will be holed up for watch parties in various hotels, restaurants and ballrooms throughout the state.

In Ohio's 1st Congressional District, state Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-Price Hill) is challenging U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Westwood).

Chabot planned to cast his ballot Tuesday morning at the Westwood Library. On election night he will be hosting a party at the downtown Hyatt.

Boccieri hitting all four counties in 16th on final day before election

State Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) is making sure to hit all four counties in the 16th Congressional District during the final day of campaigning before voters head to the polls.

Boccieri will be campaigning across the district with stops in Ashland, Wayne, and Medina Counties. Boccieri's campaign office is based in Stark County.
