What Happened At BSB Yesteday

As I’m sure you’ve already seen, BSB had a major blow up yesterday over Nick’s interview with Lee Fisher. You’ve also likely seen countless posts elsewhere about what happened.

But what you haven’t seen so far is the truth straight from us, or I guess me. While a lot of this is already out there and the rest can be figured out, this needs to be out there if BSB is to continue.

It’s my understanding that Nick filmed the interview while attending a Young Democrats meeting in Columbus. Because Lee’s publicist (and Nick’s friend), Lauren Goode, was out of the room, he was asked to let the Fisher campaign review the video before it was posted.

My 2 Cents

Well first of all, I am very sorry to see Modern leave BSB. His contributions here have been very valuable, even though we haven't always agreed, and he will be missed. However, I feel it necessary to respond to his farewell statement and to this piece from Tim Russo over at BI.

I interviewed Lt. Gov. Fisher (and someone else whose interview I am planning to post tomorrow) at the end of the Ohio Young Democrats' Winter membership meeting February 28th in Columbus where he had given the closing remarks for the meeting. As a condition of the interview, I agreed to allow Lauren Goode, my longtime friend who serves as Lt.

Goodbye and good luck

I'm outta here.

I don't mind people who disagree with me.  In fact, I came here because I enjoy the give and take of a good debate.  Lord knows, I suffered the slings of arrows of several frontpagers, commenters, and other bloggers because of my support of Hillary Clinton.  And yet, despite some deeply personal and regretable attacks from both sides, I stayed.

I've been at this site for three years now.  I've gone through three rounds of site administrators during that time.  I think it's safe to say I'm the longest running member of BSB still blogging. Until today.  Because during my entire time at BSB, I've had one simple request for the administrators here: we don't have to agree with each other, but we should always have each other's back.

ODP Audits Mary Taylor's Hypocrisy - I'll Audit Her Recklessness

The stakes are too high as Ohio navigates the perilous waters of the current recession.  That's why state of Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor should have known better than to call the state "unauditable" last week.

The basis for her stretcher (that's what we used to call lies in Southern Ohio) was the fact that an important end of fiscal year report was past due.  As the Auditor of State, her office has been kept abreast of the issues the state has had in transitioning to its new accounting system known as OAKS.  As the Auditor, she's been treated professionally and her staff always have had a seat at the table.

Politicians to flood Northeast Ohio

Northeast Ohio will be flush in the coming days with politicians positioning themselves for 2010 statewide campaigns.

Republican former congressman John Kasich, who's all but officially running for Ohio governor, will address the Lake County Republicans in Willoughby on Friday, his ninth appearance this year at a Lincoln Day event. He's the keynote speaker on Saturday at the Medina County Republican dinner at the Weymouth Country Club. He has15 more Lincoln Day appearances planned this year, including a March 21 speech before the Lorain County Republicans.

On Saturday, Kasich is expected to be introduced by Republican state Auditor Mayor Taylor, who still has not ruled out a bid for the U.

Fisher campaign responds to BSB/ODB "No ODP endorsement pledge"

According to Lauren Goode, Fisher for Ohio spokewoman, the campaign has "no comment at this time."

I think Fisher missed the boat to be a real leader here.  There's nothing but upside for him to say that ODP shouldn't endorse.  One, ODP Chairman Chris Redfern has publicly and privately told the candidates that he'd prefer to keep ODP neutral in the race.  Two, the common perception is that Fisher has the most at risk by leaving this up to the primary voters.  By taking the pledge, it shows Fisher isn't willing to take some political risk and willing to be judged as a candidate on his own merits.

Dispatch Sort Of Mentions Senate Endorsement Pledge

Well, kind of mentioned it. Specifically, they talked about Chris Celeste's position on an ODP endorsement.

Celeste said that he could be "a creative force to solve problems" in the Senate and said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern should ensure that the party remains neutral in a primary.

"We don't need Chris Redfern laying hands on an anointed candidate," he said.

Of course, no mention was made to anything that took place here at BSB.

List of Lee Fisher's endorsements from last week...

First, I want to publicly apologize to Lauren Goode, Fisher campaign spokewoman for the delay in getting this post up. Last week, I responded to a blogger outreach effort by Lauren by asking for a definitive list of the people who endorsed Fisher at his launch last week because I could only find a few identified here or there.

She actually got back to me on Monday, and I just simply dropped the ball until now.

Lauren also reassured me that Ohio blogs aren't being left out from receiving press releases from the Fisher campaign, but that a press release referenced in the Akron Beacon Journal over the weekend concerned the endorsement of Fisher by the Columbiana County Democratic Party was sent only to the NEO media market.

Yates takes the pledge that MSM is whistling past the graveyard to pretend doesn't exist...

The MSM is really going out of its way to avoid recognizing that political blogs are having an immediate and profound impact on the Democratic Senate primary races.  From the Columbus Dispatch's blog entry on State Rep. Yates announcement:

"You can't anoint for a United States Senate seat, so the desire is that the party have an open primary process and let's see how it shakes out," Yates said. "Something inside of me tells me that at the end of the day I'll prevail."

Gee, I wonder where Rep. Yates may have gotten the idea that there's a desire to let the nominee be chosen by primary, not an ODP coronation may have come from?  Could it be

ProgressOhio: "If Jennifer Brunner isn't willing to ignore the law and play our partisan games, she's a coward!"

In 2006, a group of conservatives, including an RNC member/lawyer from PA, attempted to save the Blackwell for Governor campaign from itself and the outrage of Ohio voters disgusted with Republican rule in Ohio by challenging the legitimacy of Governor Ted Strickland, and thus, ultimately his eligibility to be sworn into office.

At the time, I said that purely as a matter of law the elections statute's standard for what can constitute as a "residency" was so flexible, that it's a stretch to say there was any legal basis for the complaint.

ProgressOhio has been pushing the State Senator Jon Husted story hard.  I've only said that people like Bizzyblog who were so quick with the felony allegations when it was Strickland are showing their partisan nonsense with their utter silence on Husted.
