Commissioner Jones undecided on Tubbs Jones replacement hours before vote

One of Cuyahoga County’s most powerful Democrats is still undecided about who he wants to replace former U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Cleveland) as the party meets tonight to vote to fill the vacancy.

County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones said he’s still weighing his options, even though Mayor Frank Jackson and former U.S. Rep. Louis Stokes have backed Warrenville Heights mayor Marcia Fudge.

“There are three or four candidates that I could ultimately cast my vote for but I essentially have avoided making an endorsement, and I said I wouldn’t,” Jones said.

Democrats meeting to replace Tubbs Jones Thursday night

Democratic leaders from Cleveland will meet Thursday night at Euclid High School to pick a candidate for the seat previously held by the late U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

Tubbs Jones represented Ohio's 11 Congressional District, and passed away last month after suffering an Aneurism.

Cuyahoga County Democrats will meet to choose a replacement for Tubbs Jones on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Tubbs Jones special election set for Nov. 18

Gov. Ted Strickland is call for a special election to fill the seat of U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Cleveland), who passed away last week.

The election to fill the 11th Congressional District's seat for the next full term will be held on Nov. 18. A primary election, if needed, would be held on Oct. 14.

Strickland explained his legal reasoning in a statement.

Officials examining options to fill Tubbs Jones’ seat, special election likely

Gov. Ted Strickland will probably call for a special election to fill the remaining five months of U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Cleveland), who died Wednesday.

The secretary of state's office said it is speaking with the attorney general and governor's office to review state law before deciding on what the next course of action should be for the district's representation.

Statement: Tubbs Jones suffered aneurysm

Although details regarding the medical condition of U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones are still unclear, her office released a statement saying that she suffered an aneurysm while driving her car and her "condition has stabilized and she is receiving the best care available."
