Portman offers up praise for McCain speech

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Former U.S. Rep. Rob Portman (R-Cincinnati) flashed a thumbs-up when asked what he thought of John McCain speech here tonight.

“He did what he had to do,” said Portman, former director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, just moments after the speech ended and the balloons began to drop at the Xcel Energy Center.

Portman carefully discusses his future plans

As always Portman said won't make a decision to run for office until after the election, but began to comment about Gov. Ted Strickland, his own economic ideas and what affect President Bush will have on future Election Days.

Boehner hears the footsteps

ST. PAUL, Minn. – In an interview with reporters today, U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-West Chester) acknowledged that, should his party lose seats in the House this fall as is widely expected, his leadership position could well come under target from fellow Republicans.

“Listen, it’s the nature of the business,” said Boehner, who recalled a meeting he had with an Indian reservation chief who was facing re-election.

MINNEAPOLIS – U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) roused Ohio Republicans by telling them that the fate of the county and the free world rests on their shoulders because of Ohio’s critical importance to electing John McCain.
