Cuyahoga County Democratic Party fund-raiser is filling up

The Cuyahoga County Democratic Party is expecting a full house during its annual fund-raiser March 29 at Executive Catering at Landerhaven.

Some local Democrats worried that the county corruption scandal and the recent Ohio Democratic Party dinner in Cleveland would cut into ticket sales.

But insiders say the county party is close to hitting the 750 person target for the event. The event sells out every year largely thanks to law firms, unions, and corporations that want to stay close to the party that dominates politics in the county. Tickets for this year's event cost $175 apiece. Sponsorship cost up to $1,750.

Fisher still telegraphing that Brunner is a threat...

Allow me to voice my dissent to Nick's post about Fisher's "Women for Lee" campaign fundraising group kick-off.  First, the simple fact that Fisher is launching a statewide fundraising subcommittee further cements that Fisher views that Brunner is the only Senate contender that Fisher is worried about.  Second, it suggests that Fisher is convinced that Brunner is in this for the long haul.

This continues the trend of Fisher reacting to Brunner.  I'm not surprised that Fisher is launching this effort in NEO as that's his geographical basis.  What I am surprised is who is not mentioned on this list of sponsors.  Ohio has four Democratic Congresswomen: Kaptur, Fudge, Sutton, and Kilroy.

WASHINGTON — Museums, greenhouses, parks and sewer projects are just a few of the special spending priorities that lawmakers from Ohio put in the $410 billion spending bill that could pass the Senate tonight. Called "earmarks," these spending requests were not debated as national priorities, nor were they left to federal agencies to decide.

Rather, members of Congress said that they knew best when it came to spending federal money on their state.

The Plain Dealer recently highlighted a number of Ohio earmarks, including money for art museum cataloguing in Columbus (courtesy of Sen. George Voinovich) and promotion of the visual arts in downtown Toledo (thanks to Rep.

Ohioans in Congress add earmarks to $410 billion spending bill

WASHINGTON -- Ohioans in Congress from both political parties have been busily carving out millions of dollars in pet projects for their districts, even while some Republican leaders would prefer to ban the practice.
