Chabot confident, campaigning heavily, in final weekend of campaign

CINCINNATI - U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Westwood) in confident heading into the final days of his re-election campaign for Ohio's 1st Congressional District. His campaign office was bustling with volunteers when PolitickerOH.com caught up with the Congressman.

"I think we're in very good shape," Chabot said, talking up his volunteer force handing out literature, making phone calls and preparing mail.

Chabot said that as he hits the trail in the final push voters are still concerned about the direction of the economy.

Chabot gets National Taxpayers Union endorsement

U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Westwood) has received the endorsement of the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund, the political action arm of the 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union.

Chabot is being challenged by state Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-Price Hill) in Ohio's 1st Congressional District.

Chabot and Driehaus debate immigration and taxes

U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Westwood) and state Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-Price Hill) met up for a televised debate at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in downtown Cincinnati, discussing the economy, immigration and taxes.

Driehaus is challenging Chabot in Ohio's 1st Congressional District.

The candidates responded to questions from a panel of journalists, as well as to questions submitted to WCPO.com.

NRCC goes after Wulsin as 'one person economic crisis'

The National Republican Congressional Committee is going after Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D-Indian Hill) as a "one person economic crisis" in a new ad being aired in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District.

Wulsin is challenging U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) along with businessman David Krikorian (I-Madeira).

The NRCC ad says that Wulsin wants to raise property taxes, income taxes, gas taxes, as well as increased taxes to cover universal healthcare.

Boccieri and Schuring ponder some points in radio debate

State Sens. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Township) and John Boccieri (D-Alliance) appeared both separately and together on WHBC-AM's Points to Ponder with Ron Ponder to address issues concerning the 16th Congressional District on Wednesday morning.

The two are vying to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre) in the 16th District seat.

Both candidates said that the country is facing some difficult times and reiterated their commitment to the people of the district in discussing their reasons for running for Congress.

Anti-tax group calls Schmidt 'worst kind of tax and spend Republican'

Updated - An anti-tax group is hammering a TV ad from U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) and her record on taxes.

The Coalition Opposed to Additional Spending and Taxes is pointing to a Schmidt advertisement in which she says she advocates "lower taxes, smarter government regulation and less government spending."

COAST says that Schmidt's record in the Ohio legislature and the U.S. Congress paint a different picture.

Davidson and Taylor go after Obama on tax issue

Former Ohio House speaker and Republican National Committee co-chair Jo Ann Davidson, along with Ohio State Auditor Mary Taylor went after Barack Obama on taxes as Obama visited New Philadelphia and Dillonvale in Ohio Wednesday.

During a conference call with reporters, Davidson said that she was responding to Obama's positions and how they will affect the state of Ohio.

In his fourth and final "Fairside chat" at the Stark County Fair, state Sen. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) proposed middle-class tax cuts and hit opponent state Sen. Kirk Schuring (R-Jackson Township) for "raising" taxes as well as "failing to pay his own."

Schuring and Boccieri are running to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ralph Regula (R-Navarre) in Ohio's 16th Congressional District.
