Kroger and the unions

Attorney General candidate John Kroger tied up the third in a series of large union endorsements today when he garnered the support of the AFL-CIO.The AFL-CIO joined the Oregon Education and SEIU Locals 503 and 49 in backing Kroger in his race against Rep. Greg Macpherson.

"John Kroger has fought against corrupt corporations like Enron whose leadership lined their pockets while robbing hardworking Americans of their pensions," said Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain. "He will bring that same tenacity and sense of fairness to the Oregon Attorney General's office."

"John Kroger is a bright new voice for Oregon workers,” Clif Davis, Business Manager and Financial Secretary with IBEW Local 48 has said previously.Macpherson’s voice is not as new to the labor unions. During his three terms as a legislator, he supported reduced retirement benefits for some government workers, a move which might have influenced many of the union leaders’ decisions to support Kroger. Macpherson has, however, assembled his own lengthy list of endorsements, including those of Gov. Ted Kulongoski and outgoing Attorney General Hardy Myers, as well as a number of his colleagues in the legislature.
