Mike Erickson’s campaign website touts his dedication to “protecting the sanctity of life and preserving traditional marriage.”

That dedication was called into question by primary rival Kevin Mannix this week, when he fielded accusations that Erickson had impregnated a young woman and then urged her to have an abortion.

Erickson has flatly denied the allegations, however, Oregon Right to Life-which endorsed Erickson in 2006-is still calling for his withdrawal from the race.

Gayle Atteberry, Executive Director of Oregon Right to Life, which endorsed Mannix in the race, said that Erickson admitted to three members of the organization that he gave the young woman money and dropped her at a “doctor’s office.”

“Mike Erickson has become so tainted by his actions that it is now impossible for him to win this Fall,” Atteberry said in a statement.

“No matter where you stand on abortion, Mike’s actions are troubling…seeking a pro-life endorsement to further his campaign while paying to abort his child is completely dishonest…a pattern that has followed Mike Erickson through much of his public life,” Atteberry wrote.
