Gordon Smith. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee shot out a press release this morning accusing Smith of having an "allegiance to big oil."

"Rather than fighting for his constituents who are facing record prices at the pump, Gordon Smith continues to fight for the agenda of the oil industry that's making record profits," said DSCC Spokesman Matthew Miller in the press release.

Democrats also accused Smith of taking $276,825 from big oil companies since his first run for office. Moreover, they charge Smith with voting "against measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least three times" and voting "against measures to increase fuel economy standards at least three times."

The statement notes Smith has voted to give big oil and gas companies billions of dollars worth of tax breaks and subsidies during his time in the senate.

To make its point, the DSCC is running anti-Smith ads on gaspricewatch.com and gasbuddy.com.

After defeating Steve Novick in the Democratic primary, Speaker of the Oregon House Jeff Merkley is trying to unseat the incumbent Smith.
