DSCC releases new campaign ad urging Oregonians to elect 'change'

The Washington, D.C.-based Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee released a new ad Monday urging Oregonians to bring change to the nation’s capital by electing Jeff Merkley (D-Portland).

The ad, called “Change,” is light on policy but attempts to reflect Oregonians' growing frustrations with the way things are handled on the federal level.

“Oregonians are crying out for change, but all Gordon Smith offers is a continuation of the same failed Bush policies,” DSCC spokesman Matthew Miller said. “Oregonians are rejecting Gordon Smith because they know that to change Washington they need to change who they send to Washington.”

The DSCC is trying to give Oregonians the message that by changing the leadership in the nation’s capital, they can change the way the country is headed.

“If we want to change Washington, we need to change who we send there,” a man says in the advertisement says.

Smith campaign spokeswoman Lindsay Gilbride jumped to Smith's defense, saying that his career in the Senate stood for itself.

"Gordon Smith has a proven track record of bipartisan accomplishment, political independence and bridging the rural-urban divide," Gilbride said. "Jeff Mekrley has none. That's what's at stake for Oregonians in this election"
