Oregonian endorses, Hass, Burdick, Monnes Anderson, Kroger

The Oregonian editorial board endorsed three Democratic Oregon State Senate incumbents Tuesday.

The Oregonian
urged voters to re-elect state Sens. Mark Hass (D-Raleigh Hills), Ginny Burdick (D-TPortland), and Laurie Monnes Anderson (D-Gresham). The paper praised the wide range of issues the senators have worked on, as well as their experience.

“All three are capable incumbents committed to economic development, health care reform, sound public schools, investment in higher education and other pressing needs that will test Oregon lawmakers in the 2009 session,” the editorial board wrote.

On Monday, The Oregonian also endorsed John Kroger in the race for attorney general. In the spring, the paper had endorsed his primary rival, Greg MacPherson, but Monday the editorial board said that Kroger, who has both the Democratic and Republican Party nominations, will serve Oregon well.

“He's a dynamic figure with an impressive background and a firm, attractive idea of where to take the state Department of Justice,” the endorsement said.
