CNN: ‘All eyes could be on Oregon’

CNN featured the Oregon Senate race Thursday night, calling it close and hinting that because of Oregon’s location in the Pacific time zone, it could be one of the last Senate races decided on election night.

“With just days before Election Day, the contest remains a toss-up,” CNN reporters Kate Bolduan and Lesa Jansen wrote. “Given the state's late time zone, all eyes could be on Oregon, as the tight race could determine the balance of power in the Senate.”

CNN caught up with U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) in Coos Bay earlier this week during Smith’s statewide bus tour and focused on Smith’s moderate record as well as challenges of running for re-election under the GOP banner.

“For Republican Oregon Sen. Gordon Smith, his own party -- not his opponent -- may be his biggest obstacle to re-election this year,” the reporters wrote.
