Several Oregon races still in doubt

Campaign staffers who were planning on sleeping in are instead glued to their television and laptop screens Wednesday morning, waiting for more concrete election results.

Slow vote returns in several counties, including Multnomah and Lane, have made two contests that pundits thought would be easy Democratic wins still very close contests the morning after Election Day.

In the secretary of state race, Kate Brown (D-Portland) has 5 percent of the vote, while Rick Dancer (R-Springfield) has 47 percent. In the state treasurer race, Allen Alley (R-Lake Oswego) has already conceded to Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo), even though current results show that the Lake Oswego businessman is only down by four points 50-46 percent on Wednesday morning, according to KGW.

Sixty-three percent of votes have been counted, and KGW has called both races in favor of Brown and Westlund

The U.S. Senate race result is also being slowed by the vote count. The race is currently tied at 47 apiece for U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) has close to a 10,000 vote lead over U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland), according to The Oregonian.
