Roberts fires up Obama volunteers

PORTLAND -- Former Gov. Barbara Roberts rallied over 100 volunteers at Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s campaign headquarters in southeast Portland on Saturday morning.

The volunteers huddled together for a quick lesson in community organizing before fanning out into Multnomah County to make sure that Oregonians who had yet to turn in their ballots would make sure to vote.

Roberts to hold GOTV rally for Obama volunteers Saturday

Former Gov. Barbara Roberts will rally volunteers for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday, urging them to make sure Oregonians get their ballots turned in before Tuesday.

Roberts will rally Obama volunteers and supporters at Obama’s Oregon campaign headquarters in southeast Portland at 11 a.m.

OR-5: Pelosi to visit on behalf of Schrader

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will participate in a fundraiser and rally for congressional candidate Kurt Schrader on October 24, according to an email from the campaign.

The invitation says Pelosi will be accompanied by former Gov. Barbara Roberts, Clackamas County Commissioner Martha Schrader (D-Canby) and outgoing Rep. Darlene Hooley (D-West Linn), whom Kurt Schrader is looking to replace.

There will be a reception at Mama Mia’s Restaurant in Portland at 1:15, followed by rally at 1:45.

Debate on Public Safety: Smith is up for it, Merkley thinks one debate not enough

U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) accepted a debate challenge that he says former Gov. Barbara Roberts issued on behalf of U.S. Sen. candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) Monday. He sent a letter to Merkley on Tuesday, saying he looked forward to organizing a debate based solely on public safety.

“I agree with Gov. Roberts and think we should have a debate on crime and public safety immediately. The Senate is out of session this weekend, and I believe we should hold a debate this weekend on public safety and crime,” Smith wrote.

PORTLAND -- Barbara Roberts is urging U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) to agree to more debates with Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland).

The former governor was speaking out against Smith’s attack ads Monday when she suggested that the Smith campaign was likely trying to avoid debates, smear the oppositin, and keep the conversation away from its candidate's record.

Roberts elected as unpledged delegate; Kardon conceded in name of party unity

Former Oregon governor and Barack Obama supporter Barbara Roberts will be attending her eighth and possibly final Democratic convention after Josh Kardon removed his name from the list of candidates for Oregon's unpledged delegate at the Democratic State Convention on Saturday.

"Nobody knows more about men trying to push you out of a race than Barbara Roberts," Kardon told the 300 Democrats gathered at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. "So I'm asking for a unanimous vote for our former governor, and our greatest Democrat, Barbara Roberts."
