Allen Alley throws his hat into the ring for Governor

Jeff Mapes: Alley, 54, becomes the first candidate to formally announce his candidacy for governor in 2010, although several other candidates from both parties are looking at the race. Gov. Ted Kulongoski, who is in his second term, is prevented by term limits from running again. Alley brings an unusual set of experiences to the governor's race. Alley says he learned lessons from treasurer race, considers run for governor

Former state treasurer candidate Allen Alley (R-Lake Oswego) did not rule out a run for governor in 2010 in an interview with PolitickerOR.com shortly after the election.

Alley may have narrowly missed becoming the state’s executive financial officer, but he told PolitickerOR.com that he could see himself running for office again, either to replace Gov. Ted Kulongoski, or to take on a different position.

Alley concedes to Westlund

State treasurer candidate Allen Alley (R-Lake Oswego) conceded a hard-fought race to Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) Tuesday night.

“I want to congratulate Ben Westlund for his victory tonight, and I wish him well as he readies himself to manage the state’s financial portfolio through the difficult times ahead,” Alley said in a statement.

Westlund leading State Treasurer race

PORTLAND -- State treasurer candidate Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) refused to talk about his race until the results were set in stone, but early results are favorable for the Tumalo state senator.

Westlund has a five-point lead in the race with 39 percent of precincts reporting. Fifty-one percent of voters are backing him, compared with 46 percent for Allen Alley (R-Lake Oswego).

Westlund goes after Alley’s business practices in latest ad

State Treasurer candidate Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) criticized Allen Alley’s (R-Lake Oswego) business practices in a new ad released Tuesday.

The ad accuses Alley, the former CEO of Pixelworks, of outsourcing Oregon jobs, working as an economic advisor to President George W. Bush, and also accuses him of receiving a lucrative buyout after he stepped down as CEO in 2006.
