Oregon State House: The 10 biggest winners

Portland-area Democrats and rural Republicans grabbed the largest vote totals in state house races, according to numbers released by the Secretary of State on Friday.

The following is a list of the top 10 Oregon State House Representative-elects that received the most votes (major-party candidates with major-party opposition only):

1.      Rep. Mary Nolan (D-Portland) 25,939
2.      Rep. Mitch Greenlick (D-Portland) 25,277
3.      Rep. Gene Whisnant (R-Sunriver) 22,058

Hanna back to lead House Republicans

On Friday, Oregon House Republicans chose their caucus leaders to take them through the 2009 legislative session.

House Minority leader Bruce Hanna (R-Roseburg) is back at the leadership helm after he was re-elected during the caucus meeting.

Hanna will be joined by two new representatives in the leadership; Rep. Kevin Cameron (R-Salem) will replace Rep. Andy Olson (R-Albany) as deputy minority leader and Rep. Ron Mauer (R-Grants Pass) was elected to replace Rep. Gene Whisnant (R-Sunriver) as minority whip.

SD-27: Tooley confident Republicans will pick up seat

Oregon Republicans should be able to pick up outgoing state Sen. Ben Westlund’s (D-Tumalo) seat in the November election, Dennis Tooley said Thursday.

“I feel confident about that one,” Tooley said as he ate breakfast Thursday at the Oregon caucus meeting before the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Tooley is a delegate for the 2nd Congressional District.
