Politicians descending on Portland for Oregon Business Plan Leadership Summit

Oregon’s highest elected officials will descend on Portland Thursday for the Oregon Business Plan Leadership Summit.

The summit, which will take place at the Oregon Convention Center, is an annual gathering of business and political leaders to meet and discuss plans for the state’s economy and improve the quality of jobs available to Oregonians.

Governor candidate musings: Walden and/or Smith in 2010?

Oregon Republicans are hoping outgoing U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith see a 2010 run for Oregon’s governor on the horizon, according to a Monday article in the AP.

The AP’s Brad Cain wrote that state GOP officials are hoping that Smith and/or U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Hood River) are interested in running. However, neither lawmakers have committed to the race, and Walden told Cain he is happy serving in congress.

Oregonian endorses Schrader, Wu, Walden, Blumenauer, DeFazio

The Oregonian endorsed congressional candidate Kurt Schrader (D-Canby) in OR-5 Sunday, saying he was ready to serve Oregonians in Washington D.C.

“Voters in Oregon's 5th Congressional District have an easy choice to make in the November election: They should elect Kurt Schrader, the veterinarian and respected state senator from Canby,” the editorial board wrote. “Schrader is a conservative Democrat who built a reputation during his decade in the Legislature as a hard-nosed numbers cruncher and advocate for performance-based budgeting.”
