Wyden and other senators request more diversity at the State Department

This press release from Senator Ron Wyden's office encouraging Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to implement equal rights for same sex couples that work at the State Department: Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Senators Russ Feingold (D-WI) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), have asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to address inequities in employment practices concerning gay and lesbian State Department employees and to take remedial action. Break’s over, back to cabinet nominations

The Thanksgiving holiday is over and President-elect Barack Obama returned to compiling his cabinet Monday, starting with the expected announcement that U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) will be his nominee for secretary of state.

Clinton loyalist unmoved by Palin speech

MINNEAPOLIS -- A Democratic National Convention delegate for Hillary Clinton said Thursday that the convention speech delivered by Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) would not be influencing Clinton loyalists to vote for GOP nominee John McCain.

 “John McCain’s Vice Presidential pick is going to have only one affect on Clinton loyalists. It reinforces our support for Barack Obama,” said Mary Botkin, senior political coordinator for Oregon’s American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Clinton delegates officially unite behind Obama

Almost all of Oregon’s Hillary Clinton delegates cast their roll call vote for Clinton (D-N.Y.) Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention, but afterward they released a joint statement saying they are unequivocally ready to move forward and support Barack Obama for president.

“The Oregon Hillary Clinton delegation voted unanimously that we will work to elect Barack Obama and support all Democrats up and down the ticket,” Clinton delegate Rep. Sara Gelser (D-Corvallis) said.

Clinton delegate makes call for unity, thanks Obama delegates for allowing roll call vote

The morning after former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made a call for her supporters to unite the Democratic Party behind Barack Obama, Clinton delegate Rep. Sarah Gelser (D-Corvallis) thanked Obama delegates in advance for their understanding during the roll call Wednesday.

"Senator Clinton made me so proud to work for her and so proud to be a Democrat," Gelser said to the Oregon delegation as they ate breakfast. "On behalf of the Clinton delegation, I would like to thank everyone for being respectful of the process."

Today's convention schedule

The third day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST on Wednesday, with a theme of "Securing America's Future."

The day will begin with the nominating process for President, including nominating speeches for U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), followed by a roll call vote.

The headline speaker will be vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).

Oregon delegates move beyond Obama-Clinton divide

Oregonians supporting presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday that they have moved beyond the primary divide between the two candidates, despite the media's attempt to suggest there is bitterness between the two groups.

According to Oregon Obama delegate Enrique Arias, Clinton spoke to the Latino caucus Monday, urging them to unite behind Obama for the general election.
