UPDATED: Weigler to direct Healthy Climate Partnership

Attorney General spokesman Jake Weigler is leaving Salem to become campaign manager for Healthy Climate Partnership, The Oregonian reported Friday.

Weigler, who managed U.S. Senate candidate Steve Novick’s Democratic primary campaign, will head the group that is looking to push Gov. Ted Kulongoski’s energy initiatives through the 2009 legislative session.

Dean to rally Oregon Dems

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean is headed to Oregon Sunday to participate in get-out-the-vote events with state Democratic candidates.

Dean will be in Portland Sunday afternoon, and Eugene Sunday evening, to participate in rallies and urge Oregonians to get their ballots in, according to a release from Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s Oregon office.

Oregonian endorses, Hass, Burdick, Monnes Anderson, Kroger

The Oregonian editorial board endorsed three Democratic Oregon State Senate incumbents Tuesday.

The Oregonian
urged voters to re-elect state Sens. Mark Hass (D-Raleigh Hills), Ginny Burdick (D-TPortland), and Laurie Monnes Anderson (D-Gresham). The paper praised the wide range of issues the senators have worked on, as well as their experience.

Oregon House Speaker and U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) wrapped up an endorsement from the Oregon State Police Officers Association Thursday.

Joel Haugen, the controversial Republican candidate in the 1st Congressional District who wrapped up the Independent Party nomination Wednesday, is creating a stir at the Elections Division as to how his name is to be listed on the ballot.

According to Secretary of State spokesman Don Hamilton, if Haugen wants to take up the Independent Party’s nomination, he will have to resign his Republican nomination.
