Oregon: Michelle Obama

Oregon State University’s head basketball coach Craig Robinson assured the Democratic National Convention Monday night that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has got game -- both on the basketball court, and in the political arena.

“He’s confident but not cocky, he’ll take the shot if he’s open, he’s a team player, and he won’t back down from any challenge,” Robinson said.

Oregon State University basketball coach Craig Robinson will introduce his sister, Michelle Obama, tonight at the Democratic National Convention. Below are some advance excerpts from his prepared remarks. 

"But when I really think back, I can also see how the person she is today, was formed in the experiences we shared growing up: working hard, studying hard, having parents who wanted more for us than what they had. And always being reminded that in this country of all countries – those things were possible."

The Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST today, with a theme of "One Nation."  Featured speakers include Michelle Obama, U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill.), former President Jimmy Carter, and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, who will introduce a tribute to her uncle, U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).
