NRSC releases two ads attacking Merkley on taxes

The National Republican Senatorial Committee released two ads Monday attacking U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) on his tax record.

The first one, called “Packaging,” attempts to straight talk with Oregon voters by leveling with them on the economic problems Oregon is facing. It then goes on to blame Merkley for those problems.

NRSC releases three new ads attack ads against Merkley's record

On Friday the National Republican Senatorial Committee released three new ads accusing U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) of raising taxes, borrowing money to spend, and not listening to rural Oregonians.

The ads come after voters expressed discontent with both Merkley and U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) last night during a debate in Portland. Voters who sent in questions for the candidates were frustrated over the way that negative advertising has dominated the campaign.

NRSC accuses Merkley camp of mock outrage over ad

A spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee said Wednesday that, while it did accidentally air an ad accusing Democratic Senate candidate Jeff Merkley of trying to get rid of the kicker tax refund, the outraged reaction from the Merkley campaign is only an attempt to distract the public from Merkley’s economic record.

“Jeff Merkley is a tax and spend liberal with an abysmal record of depriving Oregonians of their hard earned money,” NRSC spokesman John Randall said.

NRSC releases new ad with Merkley back in the trees

The National Republican Senatorial Committee released a familiar ad Monday accusing Merkley of passing legislation to cut timber jobs and raise taxes.

The ad looks a lot like an NRSC ad released last week, and begins by accusing Merkley of “not being able to see the forest for the trees.” It then focuses on the timber industry, and accuses Merkley of working in the Oregon State House to cut timber jobs in 2003.

DSCC releases new ad targeting Smith

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee released a new ad Friday targeting U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton), claiming that he has not worked in Washington D.C to help Oregon families, but instead has worked for higher profits and tax breaks for oil companies which have given money to his campaign.

“With hundreds of thousands of dollars of Big Oil money lining Gordon Smith’s campaign coffers, it’s no wonder he thinks they deserve billions in special tax breaks,” DSCC spokesman Matthew Miller said.
