Oregon Independent Party sues Secretary of State

The Oregon Independent Party and Secretary of State Bill Bradbury are headed to court to resolve their differences on how many parties can be listed next to a candidate’s name on the ballot, according to Oregon Independent Party Secretary Sal Peralta.

Independent Party cross nominates Westlund

The Independent Party of Oregon announced it nominated Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) for State Treasurer Monday.

“Westlund’s legislative record and experience should appeal to all Oregon voters,” said the party’s secretary, Sal Peralta. “Ben Westlund is a strong leader on renewable energy. He has worked to lower health care costs and to increase consumer protections.”

Independent Party: ‘Both ‘Republican’ and ‘Independent’ should follow his name’

The Independent Party released a statement Friday morning saying that 1st Congressional District candidate Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose) should not have to give up his Republican nomination to take up the Independent nomination, and that both parties should be listed on the ballot next to his name.

Oregon Independent Party nominates Haugen in OR-1

The Oregon Independent Party announced Wednesday that it will be nominating Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose) for Congress in Oregon's 1st Congressional District.

"Joel is using his campaign to try and raise awareness about the fact that there are many politicos in the major parties who have lost sight of the national interest in the fog of partisanship," said party secretary Sal Peralta. "We support his efforts to try and bring the conversation back to the reasonable middle and encourage all people of goodwill to support his candidacy."

Merkley wraps up Independent Party nomination

Oregon House Speaker and U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) received the Oregon Independent Party’s nomination on Thursday morning.

"We are supporting Jeff Merkley because he is the true `independent' in this race," said Linda Williams, state chair of the Independent Party.  "Gordon Smith is very dependent - dependent on the utilities, drug companies, and other corporations for the millions of dollars he is spending on ads denying his record as a Bush Administration rubber stamp.”
