Riley Research poll: Of these potential candidates, respondents were most familiar with Bill Bradbury (78%), followed by Rick Metsger (62%). Of those who indicated they were familiar with Bradbury and Metsger, 25% and 13% (respectively) said they were “very familiar” with those candidates. The sample was 175 (+/-7%)

Poll: Two candidates emerge as frontrunners in secretary of state race

The field of candidates looking to secure the Democratic nomination for secretary of state has narrowed to two frontrunners, according to a poll commissioned by the Portland Tribune and FOX News 12.

State Sens. Kate Brown (D-Southeast Portland) and Rick Metsger (D-Welches) have each garnered 25 percent of Democratic voters, while state Sen. Vicki Walker (D-Eugene) heads into the race's final week with 14 percent.

Metsger: On the air again

State Senator Rick Metsger released the first of his television ads in anticipation of the May 20 primary, which highlights the Senator’s vote on H.B. 2614 back in 2005.

The ad, entitled “every vote counts” features a line-up of voters talking about how “Rick Metsger stood up for [their] voices.”

H.B. 2614 threw substantial barriers in the way of an independent candidate’s path to the ballot in Oregon, and Metsger stood in opposition to legislation, while his current opponents, Sens. Vicki Walker and Kate Brown, did not.

Metsger inducted into NW Steelheaders Hall of Fame

Even though salmon season is cancelled in Oregon this year, the NW Steelheaders are keeping busy. 

The group named state Senator and Secretary of State candidate Rick Metsger to their Hall of Fame, where he joined Tom McCall, Bill Bradbury and John Kitzhaber.

State Senator Rick Metsger, candidate for Secretary of State, was among those honored with the ‘Legislator of the Year’ award from the Oregon Nurses Association at the annual conference in Bend.
