It’s no secret that the legislature is turning over cushions looking for spare change, as they prepare to confront a horrible list of Solomon-like budget choices. Their decisions could fall particularly hard on the vulnerable in society. While legislators need to support revenue solutions for the revenue problems, they may also have to make some cuts. Alley camp hopes business record will help grab undecided voters

State Treasurer candidate Allen Alley’s campaign manager said that despite being down in a poll released Thursday, there was a large number of undecided voters that the former Pixelworks CEO would be able to pick up before Election Day.

A Portland Tribune/Fox 12 poll showed Alley down by double digits to state Sen. Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo), 34 percent to 22 percent. But the poll also said that 40 percent of Oregonians were undecided in the race.

Planned Parenthood endorses Westlund in treasurer's race

The Planned Parenthood PAC of Oregon, the political arm of Planned Parenthood, announced Wednesday it will be endorsing State Sen. Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) in the Oregon State Treasurer’s race.

“Ben Westlund has the right priorities to help make health care more affordable for Oregonians,” said David Greenberg, chair of the Planned Parenthood PAC. “We trust him to be a State Treasurer who will continue to advocate on behalf of people who are having a hard time affording the health care they need to lead productive lives.”

Oregon Independent Party sues Secretary of State

The Oregon Independent Party and Secretary of State Bill Bradbury are headed to court to resolve their differences on how many parties can be listed next to a candidate’s name on the ballot, according to Oregon Independent Party Secretary Sal Peralta.

Independent Party cross nominates Westlund

The Independent Party of Oregon announced it nominated Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) for State Treasurer Monday.

“Westlund’s legislative record and experience should appeal to all Oregon voters,” said the party’s secretary, Sal Peralta. “Ben Westlund is a strong leader on renewable energy. He has worked to lower health care costs and to increase consumer protections.”

Westlund launches new website

State Sen. and State Treasurer candidate Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) launched a new website on Thursday touting his legislative accomplishments.

According to Stacey Dycus, Westlund’s chief-of-staff, the site will serve as a place where voters can go to see the work Westlund has done one issues ranging from healthcare to renewable energy.

Ekstrom out of state treasurer’s race

Bob Eckstrom, the Constitution Party’s nominee for state treasurer, will not be running for office.

He told PolitickerOR.com Tuesday that he has decided not to file. According to Eckstrom, the Constitution Party will be nominating a different individual to run for that office.

Eckstrom did not say who would be replacing him on the ticket, but he did say he believed the announcement would be made within the next 10 days.
