Oregon: Vance Day

Two more candidates are interested in becoming the next chair of the Oregon Republican Party, according to a Thursday report on Oregon Catalyst.
 

A spokeswoman for the Republican Party of Oregon would not confirm whether Republican Party of Oregon Chair Vance Day will seek the position again when his term expires in January.

“The Chairman has not yet announced his intentions,” ORGOP spokeswoman Brianne Hyder said. Hyder would not confirm or deny whether that meant Day was considering giving up the position. “It just means he has not yet announced his intentions,” she said.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Oregon Democrats have complained loudly about U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith's campaign touting the Republican's work with high-profile Democrats in Washington.

Smith has spent much time and energy, and plenty of money running commercials touting his work with Democratic Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), instead of Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) or John McCain (R-Ariz.).

ST. PAUL -- Oregon Republican Party chairman Vance Day lambasted Democrats on Tuesday, accusing them of hypocrisy for making a political issue out of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter.

“It amazes me, the double standard that is applied when the liberal elite start to rape and pillage a middle American family because they don’t match up to what they think a vice president’s family should be,” Day said at the BNSF lunch reception for the Oregon delegation to the Republican National Convention.
