The campaign for Barack Obama is making it clear it considers Joe Biden's inclusion on the ticket a particular help for his chances in the Keystone State, calling the Scranton native "Pennsylvania's third senator."
"Senator Biden was born in and live in Scranton until he was 10, and spent nearly every summer of his childhood at his grandfather's house there after his family moved to Delaware," said Obama spokesman Sean Smith in a statement. "His great-grandfather was a local state senator, and his great-great-grandfather was an engineer who planned many of Scranton's early roadways."
The Obama campaign is holding an event in Scranton at 2:30 p.m. with U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Scranton) to watch Biden and Obama's first joint appearance.
